Hi-Yo! End of an era.

Johnny Carson’s longtime sidekick, Ed McMahon has died. He was 86. He was TV’s most famous second banana, sitting alongside Johnny Carson during what was arguably the golden age of NBC’s Tonight Show, from 1962 to 1992, welcoming a nightly national audience with his opening cry of “Heeeeeeeeeeeere’s Johnny.”
Besides setting up Carson’s jokes for 30 years, McMahon was also a familiar TV face as the emcee of Star Search. In 2008, he and wife Pamela also made news for a series of financial woes that resulted in the near-foreclosure of their Beverly Hills-area home.

  • Superman Radio Lois Lane Dies

NEW YORK, May 23 (UPI) — Actress Joan A. Stanton, who earned fame voicing character Lois Lane on the radio series “The Adventures of Superman,” has died in New York, her family says.

In addition to her “Superman” role, Stanton was known for playing secretary Della Street on the TV series “Perry Mason.”

Stanton’s daughter, Jane Stanton Hitchcock, confirmed the former stage and radio actress died Thursday of an intestinal blockage at the age of 94, The New York Times reported Saturday.

“Superman” premiered on the radio in 1940 in the wake of the superhero’s first appearance in comic books two years earlier.

Stanton, then known as Jane Alexander, joined the series for its seventh episode and went on to provide the voice of Superman’s love interest, Lois Lane, for hundreds of “Superman” episodes.

The show, which featured actor Bud Collyer as the title character, appeared in various formats on the radio until 1951, the Times said.

The Times said in addition to her daughter, Stanton is survived by her son, Tim, and her grandson, Liam.

    Rainy Night Ramblings and Rants

041709_biden Vice President Joe Biden continues to prove what a clown he really is, every time he opens his mouth. But, what is this painted across his face? Like the fake smile you use sometimes when posing for a picture, this is Joe Biden doing his impersonation of The Joker.

Another search engine hits the web: Wolfram Alpha, a huge database of knowledge, ready for you to tap into it. It is not a search engine, per se. It is more of an online encyclopedia, unlike any you could imagine. The developers promise this will be the NEXT BIG THING among online information search sources. I think it will be talked about, tinkered with by the masses, and bookmarked for use at sometime in the future [maybe] by most.

Former Sex & The City redhead, Cynthia Nixon, has become engaged with this guy in the picture. Oh wait, that is a woman. Yes, this is Nixon’s longtime girlfriend, though even as a guy, this person would be considered to be butt-ugly. Proving there is someone for everyone. Watch for a “divorce” shortly after the fake marriage of this carrot-topped duo. Ronald McDonald will be officiating at the wedding.
w6z1a7R.I.P Frank Aletter, actor, starred with Imogene Coca and Joe E. Ross in “It’s About Time” in the 60s. That was a show about two astronauts who get a little off course and travel back in time to cave man days. In the second half of the first season, they end up repairing their space ship and bring the cave couple “back to the future”. Jack Mullaney was Aletter’s astronaut side-kick. Frank Aletter was married to actress Lee Meriwether from 1958 to 1974. Aletter died May 13th 2009 at the age of 83.

    85 KTAC Tacoma

When I worked at 85 KTAC in the late 80s, the station did not have a jingle package. They could have used the old jingles, from the 70s, when the station rocked, but…NO!   I found this KTAC jingle, probably from the 70s, sounds like it was cut from an aircheck. If anyone has the old KTAC jingle package in mp3 format, it would be nice to share, like your mother always told you.

    Lou Robbins KTAC 850 Tacoma

This is Jason Remington a.k.a. Lou Robbins at KOOL FM/Phoenix circa 1997

I remember this promotional item from KTAC. This was found on eBay. $3 was the asking price. Not a bad price for this “blast from the past”. [Looks a little like Bruce Cannon on the left]
